Identity theft happens all the time to those who least expect it. Anyone can fall victim to identity theft. So, how can you protect yourself? It is very important to not disclose information about yourself to the wrong person since too much information can lead them to finding your social security number. Once someone has your social security number, they not only can steal your identity, but can do pretty much whatever they want with it. So, how do you know when it is safe to give out personal information and when it is not? If anyone contacts you with a story about something that happened so they need you to give them personal information to verify something or to “fix” something, then chances are high they are trying to scam you. You should not give out any personal information, no matter how well they see Dealing with Infidelity m to know your bank account, or your tax forms, or whatever. Chances are high they are posing as someone else who has already tapped into important information about you, but they need just a little more information about you to steal your identity, or scam you out of a lot of money. Remember, if someone legit contacts you, they already have your file pulled up with all the information they would need so they would not need to ask you over the phone or on-line again for your information. If you are the one that contacts them asking for a service for which they will need some personal information from you to pull you up in their system, then that is probably fine, but if they ask you for personal information that does not seem necessary with what they are trying to help you with, then it never will hurt to ask.
